5 ways to look instantly chic with 1 classic trench

The Trench Coat

I'm sure we are all familiar with the classic double breasted trench coat right? Extremely versatile, flattering and can totally elevate a mediocre outfit.

The one I own is a classic black belted knee length (on short girls) trench I scored ages ago from good old Target. Now while you may be tempted to judge me, I've actually found some of my favourite pieces from regular department stores.

The Looks

#1
This is a bit of a smart casual ensemble which would be perfect for something like after work drinks. The vertical stripe shirt really draws the eye up and down, making you look taller.

Now you might think I've got super hot red leather pants on.... but they're actually pleather fleece leggings from Valleygirl! The fleece actually keeps me so warm which is why I love them during autumn/winter.

With the addition of the coat, you can see that it really takes the outfit up a notch and polishes it off.

For shoe options you could go with some lace up boots to scale it down a bit or some cute pumps to add more BA-BAM!

Okay so I am literally always cold. My family know this, my friends know this and my boyfriend gets reminded of this on a near daily basis.

So, if I'm going out and less than like 80% of me is covered I will still definitely be cold, especially if the event is mostly outside.

Thigh high/over the knee boots are actually amazing. It means I have double insulation on my legs (with socks under my boots) and a real chance of staying warm!

The knit bodycon was actually made on one of the knitting machines at the Kangan institute of TAFE where I studied which was cool because we got to design and make the program too.

The trench totally makes this outfit worthy of a dinner date or birthday drinks.

High waisted jeans are definitely a short girl's best friend. I got these from Rivers and I've easily gotten five years of use out of them and they haven't come apart yet!

Pairing these with a cute cropped jumper can really make your legs look long. This particular jumper actually has a smattering of diamantes on the sleeves.

Despite the jumper being a more casual piece, the whole look is lifted with the addition of the trench.

A heel can also take it in a polished direction or a you can pare it back with a sneaker or flat boot.

So with the first impression of this ensemble you get more of a work wear vibe for sure. This is totally not a bad thing though because we all like to look chic but professional at work and this combo gives you that.

The pretty flared sleeve wrap shirt I purchased from Cotton On I believe and I love it because it adds a little flavour and life to your wardrobe if you don't want to go too bold.

I scored the pants from Valleygirl (one of my go to stores) when I was actually looking for proper work pants for a new job (haha)!

Again, the trench is super work appropriate here and who doesn't love all black ;)

For the 9-5 I'd go with a cute boot like these I got years ago from Kmart but if you've got some after 5 plans you can swap them for some comfy pumps.

If ever you were looking for a BA-BAM outfit, this is it. While it might seem to bold and bright, this can be a good thing; especially during the colder seasons when everyone else is so drab in grey and black.

I bought this dramatic jumpsuit from Valleygirl (again) and I believe it was half price!

Now I know at least some of you who are reading this are petite and you might be worried about wearing pants or jumpsuits but if you style them properly you can look like a #girlboss with ease.

In this case, the trench coat gives such a sophisticated feel and the black can balance out the bold red.

A great option for shoes would be a pump or peep toe heel. The lace up peep toes I have on, I scored from forever new!

So, there you have it!

I really hope you guys found something that works for you and suits your style from these 5 options.

Now you can see just how easy it can be to up your fashion game with a simple trench coat.

Thanks so much for reading and I'd appreciate if you could share this on Facebook.

Stay stylish xx
